About safety and control
Hypnosis is generally considered a safe, natural state. You stay aware of your surroundings, you can hear everything, and you can stop at any time. Nobody can make you act against your values. The popular image of someone clucking like a chicken comes from stage shows, where volunteers are chosen precisely because they want to play along.
Kelly asks a few screening questions during the consult. Hypnosis is not appropriate for everyone, including people currently in crisis or with certain mental health histories, and in those cases she will suggest seeing a doctor or licensed mental health provider instead.
About results
Results vary. Some people notice a shift after one session; others make gradual progress over several. Practice between sessions tends to matter, as does choosing a goal that is specific and genuinely yours. Kelly will never guarantee an outcome or a number of sessions.
It helps to think of hypnosis as a way of practicing new responses with unusual focus. Like any practice, it builds over time, and life events can make progress uneven. Kelly will check in honestly about whether the work seems to be helping.
About credentials
Kelly Bearer, MA, LPC, is an Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapist trained at Naropa University, former Naropa faculty and founder of the Boulder Hypnotherapy Institute. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado only. In Massachusetts she works as a hypnotherapist.
Hypnotherapy is not a licensed profession in Massachusetts. That means it is worth asking any hypnotherapist about their training, ethics and scope. Kelly is glad to answer those questions directly.
About logistics
Regular sessions run by secure video, with the length agreed before you book. Kelly also offers premium in-person intensives in Plymouth by appointment. The first part is conversation, followed by guided hypnosis. For online sessions, you will need a quiet room, headphones and a stable connection. Book your free consult through the booking page, or contact Kelly directly.
Sessions are private pay and insurance is not billed. Fees are shared during the free consult. If you need to reschedule, give as much notice as you can so someone else may use the time.
Between sessions, most people practice a short self-hypnosis routine for a few minutes a day. Kelly keeps these practices simple on purpose, because a routine you actually use on a busy Tuesday is worth more than an elaborate one you abandon. If something about the practice is not working, say so at the next session and it can be adjusted.
